On December 05, 2025, the Supreme Court hosted a round table discussion entitled “Interaction between the Judiciary and the Media”, which was attended by Vitalii Gatseliuk, a member of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine. The event brought together representatives of judicial institutions, communications specialists, experts, and the journalistic community to discuss ways to increase the transparency of justice and effective communication with society.
In his speech, Vitalii Gatseliuk emphasised the importance of correctly presenting the large amounts of information generated by the Commission, particularly during interviews with candidates and judges. He drew attention to the fact that many years of video recordings of such interviews constitute a significant information resource, but need to be properly structured so that society can better understand how the judiciary is formed in Ukraine. He separately emphasised the issue of long-term storage of such materials on the Commission’s YouTube channel.
The Commission member placed particular emphasis on the issue of the balance between openness and independence of judges: the level of public trust depends on transparency, but at the same time it is necessary to take into account that candidates are under stress during interviews, and information can be taken out of context and used manipulatively after a certain period of time.
According to Vitalii Gatseliuk, it is high-quality expert analysis that helps journalists form an accurate and complete picture and, therefore, provide citizens with access to objective information.
During the discussion, he also presented statistics on the official social media pages of the HQCJ – almost 20,000 subscribers on Facebook and almost 10,000 on YouTube. In particular, he emphasised the growth in reach, audience activity and the increase in the number of subscribers, which indicates increased public interest in the work of the Commission.
In conclusion, the HQCJ member noted the importance of further developing systematic communication between the judicial authorities and the media.
